Meghna Chakraborty (SCA/Marshall) ’19, MFA ’23 and Iris Kim (Marshall) ’19 were selected as grant recipients of the NewFilmmakers Los Angeles. They will receive $5,000 to help fund the duo’s creative project, Unfolding.

Jon M. Chu ’03 and Alice Brooks ’01 received the fourth annual Variety Creative Collaborators Award at the 2025 Middleburg Film Festival. Additionally, Chu was honored with the A1 Award in Entertainment and Media at the Gold House Gala and received the 2025 Motion Picture Association’s Creator Award. Chu is currently directing Split Fiction for Amazon MGM Studios, developing the Netflix wrestling drama Tuesday Night Titans, and serving as Executive Producer on the upcoming Crazy Rich Asians TV at HBO Max.

Poppy Hanks ’95 is set to produce the upcoming untitled romantic drama from author Eugene Ashe, known for Sylvie’s Love, for Netflix.
Richard Heredia-Arriaga MFA ’13 had his screenplay South Natomas advance to the second round of consideration for the 2026 Sundance Film Program Development Track. Additionally, his script Border Lawyer was named a semifinalist in the Final Draft 2025 Big Break Screenwriting Contest, and he was selected as a finalist for the Sundance Collab Cultural Impact Residency.
Billy Higgins ’03 made his directorial feature film debut with Three, which won the Best Thriller award at the Marina Del Rey Film Festival. Fellow alumnus Blake Armstrong ’03 served on the project as a story co-writer.

Eric Karkheck ’11 was recognized with both an LA Area Emmy and a Telly Award for his work in documentary storytelling. He received the Emmy for producing and editing a short documentary on Fernando Valenzuela’s life and career with the LA Dodgers, which aired on Beyond the Sport on Spectrum News 1 SoCal. He also earned a Telly Award for directing a short film celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Groundlings.

The film will be produced by Carolyn Knapp ’22, Maria Paula Quesada ’23, Gabby Fiszman ’23, and Giovanna Trujillo.
Jody McVeigh-Schultz ’05 is set to produce and direct the upcoming documentary Cocaine Quarterback, which follows former USC football player turned convicted drug cartel kingpin Owen Hanson.
Josh Mendoza ’12 released his debut novel Shadow of the Eternal Watcher. The book is now widely available.

Minnie Schedeen ’17 will adapt the novella Saturation Point for Universal Studios, with Michael Bay producing and Cynthia Erivo attached to star.
Andrew Schneider ’14 has been appointed as the newest Executive Vice President of Candle Entertainment.
Josh Schwartz will serve as Executive Producer on the upcoming young adult drama Sterling Point for Amazon MGM Studios, where he and producing partner Stephanie Savage signed a first-look TV deal. Schwartz is also collaborating with Jordan Weiss ’15 as executive producers and co-writers on a Clueless TV sequel series currently in development at Peacock, with Alicia Silverstone set to reprise her iconic role.
Marcella Serrano '05 worked as editor and co-producer of the documentary Stans that explores the world of Eminem superfans. It had its world premiere at the inaugural SXSW London Screen Festival 2025.
Ian Shorr ’07 sold his sci-fi spec Shiver to Warner Bros, with Tim Miller directing, Matthew Vaughn producing, and Keanu Reeves attached to star.

Alex Simon ’90, author of the award-winning short story Ocean Pacific, published it as a Kindle Single on Amazon this past August. The story is an autobiographical coming-of-age narrative set in 1980 and is now available for purchase and download on Amazon.

Dallas Sonnier ’02 released his latest western feature, Frontier Crucibl,e starring Armie Hammer and Thomas Jane, both in theaters and on-demand.
Matt Spicer ’06 is set to direct the upcoming Netflix comedy Little Brother.

Conrado Terrazascross MFA ’91 received a $10,000 grant from the Eastside Arts Initiative to produce two staged readings and a sizzle reel for his screenplay Sunset Junction. The project was also selected in the Feature Screenplay category for the Unlock The Gates Showcase at Universal Studios, held in November 2024.
Vera Tin ’21 served as a cinematographer for the Youth Trilogy: Youth (Spring), Youth (Hard Times), and Youth (Homecoming), which premiered in competition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, 2024 Locarno Film Festival, and 2024 Venice Film Festival. The trilogy earned multiple nominations and won awards at Locarno and the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards.
Marisa Torelli-Pedevska ’22 launched the Inevitable Foundation’s first production studio, Inevitable Studios, alongside co-founder Richie Siegel.
Richard Tucci ’05 had two projects, Energizing Breath and Dark N Darker, showcased at Indie Film LA and the Asian Talent Film Festival, where Dark N Darker received recognition in its category.

Amanda Rome West ’20 was formally inducted into the Recording Academy Songwriters & Composers Wing. She also released her latest album It’s West’s World, which includes the track “Like It’s the Weekend,” featured on the CW’s hit series All American.
Matthew Wilder ’20 served as Director of Photography on Janis Ian: Breaking Silence, which premiered in theaters in March 2025 and is available to stream on PBS as part of the American Masters series. His work on PBS also earned him a Los Angeles Area Emmy Award for Artbound, where he was Director of Photography for the opening episode, The Cheech.
Max Winkler ’06 will direct and serve as executive producer on the upcoming Ryan Murphy FX series adaptation of The Shards.
Davern Wright MFA ’12 released the first episode of the fantasy adventure podcast musical OUT FROM UNDOR, about a girl from a kingdom where citizens are ranked on a ten-point attractiveness scale, with anyone below seven enslaved in a hellish underground colony. It’s available on YouTube and all major podcast platforms.
Jared Yeager ’02 joined Oncade as head of developer relations, raising an initial $4M from a16z to grow their new gaming community-driven platform built to increase studio revenue through strengthening player engagement.
Global distribution rights to Come See Me in the Good Light were acquired by Apple TV following its premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the Festival Favorite Award. The film was produced by Susan Yeagley ’93 and features cinematography by Brandon Somerhalder ’14.
Robert Zemeckis ’73 will direct the upcoming feature The Last Mrs. Parrish at Netflix, with Jennifer Lopez starring in the lead role.
Mindy Zemrak ’05 was nominated for her 4th Casting Society of America Artios Award for Season 16 of Shark Tank, where she is the Supervising Casting Producer.

Xindi Zhang ’25 won the 2025 Student Academy Award for her alternative/experimental XA project The Song of Drifters, which was announced at the annual Academy International Student Film Awards in NYC on October 6, 2025.
