Meri Weingarten
Meri Weingarten’s last job at SCA was as Director of Media & Technology, overseeing all the logistics necessary in keeping all the School’s classrooms, screening rooms, and labs equipped and functioning. But when she came to the School in the mid-nineties, in the midst of a career as a tv/film editor, it was to teach 290.
Weingarten eventually switched to staff positions in management, overseeing some of the School’s most important transitions. “The most memorable moments include the many months and years of planning and building our new buildings,” she remembers. “That really was a turning point for the School and my position since we grew exponentially in terms of space, personnel, and technology.
Another crucial moment? The transition to remote learning. “The pandemic lockdown and the process my team went through in order to enable all faculty and students to be able to work remotely will never be forgotten!” she says.
In her three decades at SCA, Weingarten witnessed some remarkable technological advances, bookended by her experiences teaching students production and post-production, to cutting deals for technology hardware and software. She says she will miss that front-row seat to “learning about technology on an on-going basis, and making critical decisions about the technology that is best for the school.” But most of all, she will miss “the people, in particular my incredible team who support the school, and always supported me.”
